My Oregon Trail

We spent a good amount of time traversing the state of Oregon. We started off driving to the coast, Ft. Stevens State Park and the small fishing town of Astoria, sleeping in a campground parking lot. We spent a lot of time catching up on journaling and blogging in a cafe in Astoria, where it was obvious that a close knit community existed. It was nice to feel part of a community, even for just a little while.

Next we made our way inland to Portland, where a friend from the ranch is going to college. This happened to be on Halloween, and since we all have plenty of ranch attire we decided to dress up as farmers and cowboys. Sleeping on a college dorm floor was not my favorite trip down memory lane, but we still had a great time. In the morning we visited Voodoo Doughnuts, which has been recognized in numerous magazines and TV shows.

Our wheels then turned south toward Crater Lake National Park. This majestic sight was created 7700 years ago when a volcano collapsed, creating a plummeting crater that is now the 9th deepest lake in the world. Unfortunately most of the park was closed for the winter season, but we were able to view the lake basically tourist free.
